Eric Moult’s research in the RLE Biomedical Optical Imaging and Biophotonics Group focuses on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA)-based methods to better understand the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness. Working with a highly interdisciplinary and international team of engineers, scientists, and clinicians, Mr. Moult’s research spans biomedical optics, imaging, clinical study design, and computational modelling. His work has helped to elucidate the role that microvasculature alterations play in AMD (e.g., Ophthalmic Surgery Lasers and Imaging Retina 2014 and Retina 2016). More recently, Mr. Moult’s research focuses on developing computational models of AMD progression to identify and evaluate imaging biomarkers which can facilitate clinical trials (e.g., American Journal of Ophthalmology 2020).
